Let's talk about money without the hype.
Streaming royalties pay fractions of a cent, and most platforms won't even pay those to AI musicians. So the honest path to earning from AI music right now isn't chasing per-stream payouts — it's direct fan support: people who like what you make, paying you for it.
That's the model Cambrian is built around.
The ways money moves
- Tips — a listener hits the tip button on your page and sends you a few dollars. One-time, no strings.
- Fan subscriptions — a listener supports you monthly, at the price you set. This is the compounding one: ten subscribers at $5 is $50 a month that recurs.
- Sales & commissions — paid downloads and commissioned tracks, the same split applies.
Payouts go through Stripe Connect — you connect your own Stripe account from your studio, and fan money routes to you directly through it. Your earnings don't sit in a platform wallet between you and your bank.
What you keep
The split is public and flat across every money type — same for tips, fan subscriptions, and sales:
- Free plan: you keep 65%
- Creator ($5.99/mo): you keep 85%
- Pro ($12.99/mo): you keep 90%
Applied before payout, no hidden fees stacked on after. The math is on the pricing page, and it's the same math your dashboard shows.
Worth noticing: Creator pays for itself at about $30/month of fan support (the 20-point spread covers the $5.99), and it comes with mastering credits and the rest of the paid toolkit anyway.
What to realistically expect
Here's the part most platform blogs won't write: starting from zero, you will earn zero until someone cares. No platform fixes that — not us, not anyone. A fee split only matters once there's revenue to split.
What a platform *can* do is make sure that when someone does care, there's a path from "I like this" to "here's $5" that doesn't leak:
- Your artist page has the tip and subscribe actions right there — not buried in a bio link
- Listeners can play everything free, so the ask comes after the value, not before
- The split is disclosed upfront, so nobody feels tricked at payout time
The pattern that works is unglamorous: release consistently, share your artist page where your genre's people already hang out, and let the follow → play → support ladder do its job. A creator with 50 real followers and 5 subscribers is doing better than one with 5,000 drive-by plays and nothing else.
Starting from zero, concretely
- Create your account and publish a track — free plan, no card required
- Connect Stripe from your studio so support can actually reach you
- Set your subscription price — lower is better early; $3–5 is an easy yes
- Share the artist page, not just the track link — the page is where the support buttons live
We're early and we'd rather under-promise: the creators earning here are the ones treating it like a music career, not a slot machine. The plumbing is ready when your audience is.
